I've been out shooting more but not getting many keepers. I liked the skies on this one but wish the water had been calm, but spring weather is keeping it pretty choppy at the lake.

My right knee is 1 year old today and the left will be a year old next month. Kathi had to remind me tonight that last year I was in a hospital bed celebrating Valentines day. Not a day goes by that I'm not thankful for the new knees and still wondering why they aren't perfect but that is usually the way most things in life go. I took this shot 4 days ago and I was reminded of how the new knees aren't perfect since I was scrambling among the rocks on this marina breakwater at the Great Salt Lake, going down was not too bad but trying to get back up was a different matter bending the knees enough to get my foot on a rock and then having enough leverage to make the step up was a challenge. Even though I've lived in Utah almost my entire life there are still times when I'm shooting a scene and thinking WOW! This was one of those times.

I got some new software tools and decided to go fishing on the hard disk to see if I could find something I hadn't processed before. This is a shot from May 2007 of the Green River Overlook, Islands in the Sky section of Canyonlands National Park, Utah.

A Little Snow

Finally got some snow and I finally made it out for some photography. The dense salt water sinks and allows fresh water to pool over top which allows some ice to form on the Great Salt Lake. There was a small pool unfrozen water at the cut out that allows the water levels to equalize between each side of the lake along the causeway. There were even a few ducks in the water but I shot this one about 30 minutes after sunset and it needed a long exposure to collect enough light and because the ducks were moving they weren't in one place long enough to be captured by the camera.

Thankful

Took my Mother in Law for a drive to the island this afternoon, she is here visiting for Thanksgiving. I wasn't sure that the colors would develop since the clouds looked a little thick, but I was Thankful that we waited to see what would happen.

Captured this nice sunset last Friday at Antelope Island. Ian and I went out after work. October came and went so fast now on to the long nights of late fall and winter, I'm going to miss those long evenings full light. On the positive side the island will be much quieter and bug free.

Autumn in Big Cottonwood Canyon

With the Indian Summer we have been having this week I was able to get up to the canyons for some shooting after work. Since the snow last week the autumn colors have really popped. Everyone else had the same idea it seemed because the canyon was packed with photographers and people enjoying the colors. This one is about half way to Solitude in Big Cottonwood canyon.
