We rang in the New Year quietly this year. Wait…we always do. At least we were together, unlike last year when Jacob was on a plane back to NYC and I was in Utah when the clock struck twelve. This year, though, Jacob was very sick with a yucky cold or something so he was pretty miserable. We got Chinese food, per my family tradition. And we rented 500 Days of Summer, which I’d already seen 2 times but was delightful even the third time. At midnight we watched the fireworks going off the Stratosphere from our window. (This is the only time there’s every been any benefit to being able to see the strip from our window.)
On New Years Day we woke up and surprise, Santa had returned! He always brings one last gift on New Years Eve. Isn’t he thoughtful? Looking at the picture of our gifts it looks like two gifts for baby and one for Jacob but in fact Fancy Nancy is for me.

I usually love a New Year. After the holidays it’s exciting to get the place cleaned up and organized again. This year the New Year brought some stress to me, though. I woke up on New Years Day and started panicking, “We’re having a baby THIS YEAR!” I don’t know why that made such a big difference but in my brain it suddenly made it seem soon whereas before it seemed a long way away. Now I feel like I have so much to do before the baby comes!
As far as resolutions go, I didn’t want to add to much stress to the above mentioned stress. So my only specific resolutions are:
1- Cook a new recipe every week. I’m attempting to make dinner every night now that I’m feeling so great but I definitely need some new recipes in my repertoire.
2- Complete the New Years Grand Plan before the baby is born. I have less rooms than are included on the plan so I should be able to do it with time to spare. I haven’t even started putting the baby’s room together besides hanging up clothes so that will be a project.
I’m excited for this New Year, even if a little terrified that we’ll have a baby in like 3 months. This will definitely be a year unlike any other.

Cook a new recipe each week is one of my resolutions too! Have you seen the “Cooking for the Rushed” cookbooks? They are life changing!
happy new year! I try to do one new recipe each week too. And thanks for the link to the Grand Plan challenge — that’s exactly what I need.
Ooo! I like that little cleaning plan – thank you for sharing! And I’ve hunted down some winter recipes and I’m planning to make them next week and report them on our blog on Friday. Maybe you might like them.
So exciting to be welcoming a baby this year!!
i LOVED 500 days of summer!
Wow that’s so amazing to think you’ll be having a baby this very year! Exciting! You are going to be a great momma. I can’t wait!
I need to take a look at that cleaning plan…and abide by your cooking a new recipe resolution! Or heck, just even cooking period. With work full time and grad school, I don’t cook all that much. Poor hubby. Anyway, no stress EK, you can do it
You will have more random panic moments before the baby comes, but no worries. I remember looking down at my belly one day when I was almost 9 months pregnant and thinking, “I have to get this baby out of me?!” Ahh, the memories
.
That Santa knows you guys pretty well!
