The blog is mostly fixed, yay! Glad I didn’t lose almost 4 years of blog posts.
On Tuesday morning I watched the inauguration at home. I almost forgot and turned the TV on at 11:55, just in time! After the ceremony was over I wanted to head up to Harlem and see what was going on. I was expecting it to be crazier than it ended up being. Lots of Obama stuff everywhere, but that’s actually pretty normal! 125th was buzzing though, that’s for sure.

The guy in the last photo was selling Obama neck ties and American flags with Obama’s face right in the middle of it. I had to giggle.
This was the front page treasury on etsy for part of the day. I think it looked great.

I loved seeing people so interested in the inauguration. I loved “witnessing” this historical event, especially here in Harlem. I love that the changes are giving people hope. I may not agree with all of Obama’s politics but he seems like a good man and I hope that he does right by America.
On the other hand, I do think that a lot of people have developed unrealistic expectations, especially here in Harlem. My friend Rebecca wrote this post about it and it’s too true.
Good luck Obama!
On a completely unrelated note, I’m addicted to Veronica Mars. More on that later.
I love the new blog!! Inauguration Day was great – I’m glad you took the time to make a little of your own blog history. I’m in love with Obama, so maybe my expectations are unrealistic, but I’m such a synic most of the time that it’s refreshing to feel something that seems like hope, maybe?
Whoops, I misspelled cynic!
I took that exact same photo of the swearing-in!
Was that Rebekah, my sister commenting above? All of the Obama memorabilia is pretty funny isn’t it? I like the sweat pants the most.
Yes, that was Rebekah.
I just wonder what people used to sell on the streets in Harlem before Obama! You do still see a fair amount of MLK Jr stuff, but nothing compared to the Obama stuff. You can even get is election acceptance speech (from November) on cd, put to music! We always giggle when we pass that table.
Good thing you have a little camera so you can take sneaky pictures of people’s pants now.
I love that you went out and took pictures of all of the Obama stuff! Maybe we can get matching T-shirts when we come to visit.;)
Just wanted to say…I love Veronica Mars! i’m still sad that it was cancelled.
You’re so lucky to live so close to Harlem. I am obsessed with that place : ) Cool t-shirts, ties, and sweat pants. I looked around on the web last week, and the most interesting/cool thing I found was a pair of black boots bejewled in crystals that made out Obama’s profile… someone put in a LOT of work to make that! People really do have crazy expectations, he’s just a man- and not perfect, but a nice guy for the job : ) Glad you’re enjoying NYC as always!
Hey Emily, I didn’t see you at church today and wanted to get your contact info for this week. Can you see my email address from when I signed in to leave this comment on your blog? If not I will call Rebecca. Hope you have managed to keep warm and mouse free today.
Hey Emily Kate! It’s been a while and I hope you are doing well. I hope you are all settled in your apt & city living. Hopefully I’ll run into you sometime at church.
Best – Jill
