New Year

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

We rang in the New Year quietly this year. Wait…we always do. At least we were together, unlike last year when Jacob was on a plane back to NYC and I was in Utah when the clock struck twelve. This year, though, Jacob was very sick with a yucky cold or something so he was pretty miserable. We got Chinese food, per my family tradition. And we rented 500 Days of Summer, which I’d already seen 2 times but was delightful even the third time. At midnight we watched the fireworks going off the Stratosphere from our window. (This is the only time there’s every been any benefit to being able to see the strip from our window.)

On New Years Day we woke up and surprise, Santa had returned! He always brings one last gift on New Years Eve. Isn’t he thoughtful? Looking at the picture of our gifts it looks like two gifts for baby and one for Jacob but in fact Fancy Nancy is for me.

From Blog

I usually love a New Year. After the holidays it’s exciting to get the place cleaned up and organized again. This year the New Year brought some stress to me, though. I woke up on New Years Day and started panicking, “We’re having a baby THIS YEAR!” I don’t know why that made such a big difference but in my brain it suddenly made it seem soon whereas before it seemed a long way away. Now I feel like I have so much to do before the baby comes!

As far as resolutions go, I didn’t want to add to much stress to the above mentioned stress. So my only specific resolutions are:

1- Cook a new recipe every week. I’m attempting to make dinner every night now that I’m feeling so great but I definitely need some new recipes in my repertoire.

2- Complete the New Years Grand Plan before the baby is born. I have less rooms than are included on the plan so I should be able to do it with time to spare. I haven’t even started putting the baby’s room together besides hanging up clothes so that will be a project.

I’m excited for this New Year, even if a little terrified that we’ll have a baby in like 3 months. This will definitely be a year unlike any other.

christmas journal dec. 13-25

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Next year when I do this journal I vow not to let myself get this far behind!! I haven’t decided yet if I’m continuing with the journal for the days after Christmas to New Years. I’ve been working on this all afternoon so we’ll see how I feel about it tomorrow!

You should be able to click on the pages to see it bigger and read the journaling (that way I don’t have to write about our trip twice!)

(Photo coming soon of Christmas Cards)

Bacon Wrapped Pineapple Bites recipe here. Everybody LOVED these. And they really are easy. We’re making them again on New Years!

This day Jacob and I went to SLC for an afternoon date. We got waffles at Bruges and saw Me and Orson Welles at the Broadway theater. Such a fun date!

I also stopped by my old school to see Shareka and some of my old students. They’re getting so big! After school Heidi and I rented 500 Days of Summer and Jacob watched the BYU game before we headed back to Mom and Dad’s.

Met my childhood best friend Courtney for lunch today. I’m so happy we’re still friends after over 20 years! Mom made the Sinterklaas dinner tonight, yum!

I didn’t decide to buy anything for the baby until 4:00 PM on Christmas Eve! I had been talking myself out of it and then finally decided I would feel bad if I didn’t so Heidi and I ran off to Target just in time before it closed! I love the gifts we picked out for her. You’ll see on the next page that the baby made a haul! She’s already so loved.

Merry Christmas! As you can see, we had a wonderful day. I couldn’t fit all the details onto the pages! My brother really was there, even though none of the pictures turned out. The “pantyhose” sign from my Grammy for Mom was one of our favorite gifts. We’re still not sure what she was thinking! As mentioned on the pages, Jacob and I got lots of great gifts including a new lens and tripod for me and a digital video camera for Jacob. My parents apparently want to be sure we capture every move this baby makes. :)

christmas journal dec. 10-12

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Obviously I didn’t get caught up on the journal before we left so I’m working on it now! These pages include the cookie exchange I hosted for some of the wives last week. It’s been such a nice December!

Also, we’re freezing in Utah. I actually love the weather (seasons are nice!) but it’s hard to remember how to pack for cold weather when you’re living some place that’s 60 degrees during the day. So I definitely didn’t pack well for this chilly weather.

christmas journal catch up dec. 7-9

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

I got behind last week! I was so busy getting the house ready for Christmas and preparing for the Christmas cookie exchange I hosted for some of the wives that the Christmas journal went on the back burner. Now I’m trying to get caught up. Jacob’s done with school for three weeks so we’ve been enjoying our time together.

And I realized after a comment from a friend that I haven’t mentioned anything about the pregnancy lately. Around Thanksgiving I really started getting my energy back and my nausea is almost completely gone. In fact, I’m starting to feel like food actually sounds good, which hasn’t happened since August. So that’s great and also bad because I’ve been enjoying steadily losing weight in the pregnancy so far. Baby Girl likes to move a lot! Yet again at my doctor’s appt. the doctor commented on how much she moves. She was kicking back HARD while the doctor was using the doppler. This girl’s got attitude already! I love feeling her move though. Sometimes when I’m doing things and she’s busy moving it feels like we’re just hanging out together! A lot of times these days I don’t even feel pregnant. Everybody said the 2nd trimester is great but I never believed them. During the 1st trimester I never thought I’d feel normal again. So I’m pleasantly surprised that what they say about the 2nd trimester is true.

So here are a few more days of the Christmas Journal. Hopefully I’ll get some more done today! I’d like to get caught up before we head to Utah on Friday so fingers crossed! Lots to do.

christmas journal dec 2-6

I hope you all had a nice Sinterklaas Eve! He visited us last night and brought something for Baby Girl even though she doesn’t have any shoes yet. I think she’s happy about the gift because she’s kicking like crazy as I write this. You can see the photo of our Sinterklaas gifts on the last page. This journal has been really fun and it’s helping me get into the spirit of Christmas. (For the record, the colors aren’t right on these jpgs. The colors are much warmer on the originals.)

Don’t forget you can check out last year’s Countdown to Christmas for lots of Christmas cheer.
